XR For The Real World: Gowanus Lands

Working with my classmates Zisiga Mukulu, Nina Wang, and Shuhao Liu, we designed and created a virtual park for a proposed site on the Gowanus Canal. For our proposal pitch, we made the park fully explorable in Virtual Reality to allow reviewers to get a true sense of the scale and place our park creates. The park is composed of large public seating area that leads into winding paths through low rolling hills, and features a water side amphitheater and two large center pavilions. I was responsible for the pavilion design, as well as general geometry optimization, texturing, lighting, baking, and creating the final VR experience with locomotion controls and audio sources. In addition to presenting the final piece in VR, Some of the early prototypes were done in Tilt Brush VR in order to situate our early sketches in 3D and speed up our iterative process, allowing us to finalize our design quicker.
